Question:  I wanted to use the PLR sites from PLR-Content.com mostly to generate Google Adsense income, having many sites that will hopefully earn $1/day each. Is that something you think is possible?

Answer:  Yes, it’s possible.  It does take effort though.  The three keys are click-through rate, your earnings per click, and traffic.

Click-through rate can be improved by slowly tweaking your site design and observing what changes increase or decrease the click-through rate on ads.  It sounds funny, but what you want is a site that is good enough that it will get indexed by the search engines and will attract visitors, but incomplete enough that people are still looking for more and want to leave.  Then you want the obvious exit links (which appear to offer the people what they are looking for) to be the Adsense ad links.

Earnings per click are dependent on getting the content (especially the targeted keywords) on each page to trigger Adsense ads that lots of advertisers are bidding for.  One topic might only bring you $0.05 per click but another topic might bring you several dollars per click.  So you want to target content around keywords that have lots of competition.  This is in contrast to what you want for search engine optimization.  In general, you will be able to rank higher in the search engines for keywords with less competition.

One way to satisfy both needs is to use “long tail” keywords (longer keyword phrases) that have searches but little competition in search engine results but that contain keywords or keywords phrases that have high advertising competition.  Since Google makes money from advertising, they will tend to display higher priced ads.  But since you have one of the few pages targeted for the long-tail keyword phrase, you should also be able to rank well in the “organic” (non-PPC) search engine results for that page.

Once you know what your click-through rate is and you know what your earnings per click are, it’s just a matter of increasing the traffic.  Getting traffic generally takes the most effort, in my experience.

There are basically two ways to get traffic:  buy it through advertising or get it through search engine results and links.  You can easily get traffic by buying Adwords ads, but it’s not necessarily easy to make more income than you spend on advertising.  So for an Adsense site, that generally means that you cannot profitably advertise it, so you need to get it listed in the search engines and get as many links (links that people would actually click on) as possible with a reasonable amount of effort.

These days it is usually not necessary or recommended to submit your site to search engines.  Most experts say it is better to let the search engines find it as they crawl the web.  But of course you want to make sure they find it and index it as quickly as possible.  And you also want them to find it from links from as many different sites as possible.  That shows the search engines that it is a popular site or even an authority site.  Probably the two easiest ways to achieve this currently are article marketing and social networking.

Article marketing, or “bum marketing” as it is sometimes called, is pretty simple.  You write one or more short (about 500 words or so) articles and submit them to article directories (such as http://www.ezinearticles.com/).  At the end of the article, you get to include an author’s resource box that links to your site.  If you use PLR articles, be sure to totally modify them so they are not recognizable as the original article and in fact become a totally new article.  (Submitting PLR articles to ezinearticles.com will get you kicked out… don’t do it!)  There are a number of services that will submit an article to hundreds of article directories for you.  Here are probably the three best:

In social networking, you get your link on various social networking sites.  One of the simplest things to do is to “digg” your articles or your site by submitting them to: http://www.digg.com/

Be sure to look through digg.com first and see what other people are doing and fit in with the community.  Social networking sites have their own community rules, and you don’t want to get banned for spam.

These techniques will usually get your website indexed within days, plus if your articles are decent and your diggs are decent, you will also get traffic from them.  So don’t just do it for links, do it for traffic also.

The more articles you do for a given site, the more links and traffic you get and the higher you get in search engine results.  And you can get article ideas from anywhere.  For example, since this is a long answer, I might as well also turn it into an article and publish it!
